Clare County Sheriff’s Mounted Deputies (CCSMD)
The current CCSMD was formed in 2009 under Sheriff John Wilson. The purpose of the Mounted Deputy is to assist the Sheriff and Citizens of Clare County. We provide this assistance in search and rescues, mounted security, crowd management, parking cars and public relations. The horse is highly visible to the public, very mobile and easier to see into crowds and parking lots. In an search and rescue situation the height gives an advantage and a horse can hear better than a human.
We are a non profit organization volunteering our service to the Sheriff, Department and to the residents of Clare County. There are no public funds used to support the CCSMD. Expenses are covered by the members and by donations (which are tax deductible). We do hold an annual fundraiser at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Clare at Witbecks Family Foods.
We are ‘On Call’ at all times should the Sheriff require our assistance. We help at county events, patrols and especially public relations. We also provide assistance to the Department in transporting inmates to and from the county and hospital appointments. All is done as volunteers and helps to keep the deputies available where needed.
Last year CCSMD did over 1600 hours of community service and over 600 hours of training. We currently have 11 active members and 2 new recruits.
We are always looking for new recruits. It is a commitment of time and resources. If interested contact Commander J. Loudenslager at firstname.lastname@example.org
